30 Days of WoW (Word of Wisdom)

A few months ago we were talking about the Word of Wisdom and what might be the effects or blessings of really studying it and challenging ourselves to focus on it for 30 days. That was in May, it took us until October to summon up the courage and now we're on day 3. The best part of our experience so far has been the conversations created. We're having so much fun talking to our friends both of our faith and other faiths about the WoW. <br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPqDPLBlgjtMM_lJsYWnrQZPZTSqlWHtrBniNWmaI4FtJlS35pPDJT3fLfQOpd6GGH4z7HhOXH8W7yVvG24EqDTfFwF2WKR_ld1pEIFhiGv22qkIKgDG0oydlrWrtVhPl6JWO6j9IXYTA/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPqDPLBlgjtMM_lJsYWnrQZPZTSqlWHtrBniNWmaI4FtJlS35pPDJT3fLfQOpd6GGH4z7HhOXH8W7yVvG24EqDTfFwF2WKR_ld1pEIFhiGv22qkIKgDG0oydlrWrtVhPl6JWO6j9IXYTA/s400/1.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Snagged some fresh strawberries from the farmer's market.</td></tr></tbody></table>The Word of Wisdom is found in Section 89 of the Doctrine & Covenants (a volume of LDS scripture). "The Word of Wisdom is a law of health revealed by the Lord for the physical and spiritual benefit of His children. (<a href="http://www.lds.org/topics/word-of-wisdom?lang=eng">LDS.org</a>)" You can read the WoW in it's entirety <a href="https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng" target="_blank">here</a>.<br /><br />At the suggestion of many of you we are putting extra emphasis on the DOs of the WoW while still maintaining the don'ts. It's been trial and error for us and like we said we are only on day 3. We've found that it takes some preparation and it's been helpful to read the WoW each day.<br /><br />Some of the tenants of the WoW are things that are already in practice in our lives, we don't drink alcohol or use tobacco. However there are aspects like eating meat sparingly and eating fruits and vegetables of the season that we are learning more about. We decided to refrain from eating meat for 30 days. It's a little easier for Sista Laurel as she only eats seafood meats,  Sista Beehive could use some prayer, but it's been exciting for both of us as we try new recipes and have fun with fruits and veggies.<br /><br />We aren't saying that the WoW prohibits meat, we're just taking the opportunity to focus a little more on verses 12 & 13:<br /><blockquote class="tr_bq">12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly;<br />13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.</blockquote>Anyway y'all, so far so good. We'll keep you posted. And please keep sending tips and recipes they have been helpful!<br /><br />God is Great,<br />Sista Beehive & Sista Laurel

The other day in church, y'all know what church is right? The house of the Lord, where we praise God and learn about JESUS. Ok so at church we heard this girl telling her friend about her weekend then she said,"YOLO!"<br /><br />Now it's not like we've never heard YOLO before. Anybody with a Facebook has probably seen pictures of friends doing stupid things and then their status says stuff like, "Gotz ma new 4head tat...YOLO! lolololol." Ever since rapper Drake said "You Only Live Once" in his song "The Motto" people have been ridin' YOLO til' the wheels fall off.<br /><br />What is a shock is to hear people saying YOLO at Christian churches. Y'all remember that guy, wait for it, it will come to you, oh yeah, JESUS! Lets see if we can explain this:<br /><br />There was a woman named Mary who had a baby in a manger. That baby's name was JESUS. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9lhsUpWubw16Thmfob5RuUT2IFAwvr_d-ytVQ_fx4_NhJnNBwe5-8w4L9wV1dc4eYPnOIMRMn-1jlb8I_KuuO-goggQ5oeAMTKOfx1uklnO8n-UBJZbSUoIvN7yIvSwfaR1ql3CT62zA/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9lhsUpWubw16Thmfob5RuUT2IFAwvr_d-ytVQ_fx4_NhJnNBwe5-8w4L9wV1dc4eYPnOIMRMn-1jlb8I_KuuO-goggQ5oeAMTKOfx1uklnO8n-UBJZbSUoIvN7yIvSwfaR1ql3CT62zA/s400/3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />JESUS was crucified and died for your sins, our sins, yo mama's sins, everybody's sins.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeiOhw5immjTmu3zvyX43qT_3H-0TQvooaq1f2O-4wJA010Rnhb7rdz-icMAAFGaU-l4J0WL7TSg0ZSsTD_xwhinXnrpPFSJkh21JTfczRmrYZAtsyUZf-5WhKW2En0p0HW1A7IfGZJyM/s1600/1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeiOhw5immjTmu3zvyX43qT_3H-0TQvooaq1f2O-4wJA010Rnhb7rdz-icMAAFGaU-l4J0WL7TSg0ZSsTD_xwhinXnrpPFSJkh21JTfczRmrYZAtsyUZf-5WhKW2En0p0HW1A7IfGZJyM/s1600/1.jpeg" /></a></div><br />Three days after he died Jesus rose again, he was resurrected, he LIVED again.
